About Obsvra

Obsvra builds SpiceGrinder — a model-driven synthetic data engine for teams who can’t touch production.

Obsvra is an independent software company. SpiceGrinder is the only product, and it exists because of one recurring problem from a career of building and testing software: production data being off-limits exactly when having a realistic stand-in would have made the work faster.

What SpiceGrinder does

You describe your domain — entities, distributions, relationships — as a plain-text model, and SpiceGrinder generates deterministic, reproducible data at any scale from it. No live data ever goes in, nothing calls home, and there is no LLM in the generation path guessing at what "realistic" should look like.

Who it’s for

Four kinds of teams keep showing up in the same conversation.

Blocked by a compliance review

QA and test engineers who need data that behaves like production, but can’t put real PII or PHI in a lower environment to get it.

Outgrown a value library

Teams already using Faker or Mockaroo who’ve hit the point where fields need to agree with each other — a customer whose orders, and whose order line items, are one connected structure, not three independent columns.

vs Faker & Mockaroo →

Evaluating an enterprise platform

Teams looking at GenRocket-class tools who want the same model-driven rigor without an enterprise contract and its pricing.

vs GenRocket →

Building with a coding agent

Developers who want their agent driving a real, deterministic engine under the hood — not an LLM asked to improvise plausible-looking rows.

Who’s behind it

Kevin Krom has spent over three decades as a software engineer and architect. SpiceGrinder came directly out of that experience: having synthetic data on hand, on the occasions when production wasn’t accessible, would have made development and testing considerably more efficient. Obsvra exists to build the tool that would have solved that.

Frequently asked questions

+ Is SpiceGrinder just a wrapper around an LLM?

No. Every run is deterministic and reproducible — same model, same seed, byte-identical output — and generation works with no network connection at all, which an LLM call cannot survive even in principle.

See the proof, including what happens with the network off →

+ Do I need to already know SpiceGrinder’s model format to use it?

No. Describe the data you want in plain language, and a coding agent — using SpiceGrinder’s own skills or MCP server — can draft a working starting model for you to refine.

+ What’s the difference between Free and Pro?

Free is the complete core engine — every distribution, every core filter, deterministic output — for models up to 20 nodes, unlimited generations, forever. Pro removes the node limit and adds complex data types, custom components, and more.

Full pricing and feature comparison →

+ Does SpiceGrinder ever see my real production data?

No. There is no code path that reads or transmits it, no telemetry, and generation runs fully offline by design — not as a configurable mode, but as a structural fact about how the engine works.

What that means in practice →

+ How is this different from Faker, GenRocket, or a generative AI platform?

Those are three different jobs, not competing answers to the same question: value libraries, model-driven generation, and trained generative models. SpiceGrinder is model-driven generation.
