Questions about licensing

+ Can I switch between monthly and yearly billing?

Yes. Anytime your license is up for renewal, you can choose either monthly or yearly billing at the currently published rate.

+ What’s the difference between a developer seat and a runtime instance?

A developer seat is needed for each person who uses SpiceGrinder tools to build and test models, or who integrates custom components into SpiceGrinder. A runtime instance is needed for each process that generates SpiceGrinder data — a runtime instance license can float to different processes, so your license is based on your concurrency, not your total number of models to run. The service API lets you host multiple models in a single process, which can help keep your license needs contained.

+ What happens if my model grows past 20 nodes on Free?

The model runner, analyzer, and validator each return an error indicating the maximum model size has been exceeded.

+ How long is the introductory Pro pricing available?

We reserve the right to make changes to pricing at any time. Early adopters will be able to continue renewing their existing subscriptions at their promotional rate until two years after initial product launch. After that time, if current rates are higher, existing subscription prices will increase toward those rates, but never by more than a 25% increase per billing cycle.

+ How is licensing enforced?

Every time your subscription renews, you’ll attest that your current licenses are in compliance with your usage. SpiceGrinder never “calls home” to report on your licensing status — or anything else.

+ How many licenses do I need?

That depends entirely on your specific use case. Our advice is to start small — get the entry-level Pro package, and only add on additional seats and runtime instances as you discover you need them. Or you can always contact us and we can work with you to come up with a licensing plan that best suits your needs and budget.
